Taita Taveta conservancies association elects its 2020-23 board
The Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association (TTWCA) held its
Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Panlis
Resort Mwatate, where the organization’s new Board of Directors was
elected.
Coming from a myriad of sectors, the new board members bring a wealth of
experience and leadership and will be in charge of steering TTWCA in the
next three years, an era that is expected to see the culmination of
TTWCA’s 2019-21 Strategic Plan.
Donald Bong’osa takes on the role of the board’s chairperson and will be
deputised by Charles Mwaiseghe.
Manuel Kitololo is the new secretary, deputised by Wabosha Kamattah,
while Kiute Mjomba comes on board as the treasurer.
The quartet of Peris Mwakisha, Charles Iligha, Flora Kala and Dominy
Lenjo complete the line-up of the elected board members.
The nine-member board will be joined by four ex-officio members: two from the county government (representatives from the Livestock and the
Environment departments), one from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS)
and the TTWCA CEO.
Present during the ceremony were a number of TTWCA partners, including
KWS senior warden Zainab Salim, who praised TTWCA for the efforts,
activities and progress made in the Tsavo Ecosystem. She praised the
tgoing board for having the interest of the Taita Taveta ranches at heart.
Other TTWCA partners present included Martin Oyindo (Livestock
production director, Taita Taveta County), John Mlamba (CEO, Mazido
International), Wanyika Wangio (from Africa Wildlife Foundation) and Dr
Jeremiah Ngugi (Veterinary Services director, Taita Taveta County).
The county officials present noted that the county government had initiated
efforts to partner with TTWCA for sustainable development of the
organisation and the vital work done by the organisation in improving
livelihoods and safeguarding natural resources.
