Donations to Kiteghe Leather

Jul, 2, 2025. In line with our strategic goal of enhancing community livelihoods, we continue to work closely with local conservancies and adjacent communities to initiate and strengthen income-generating projects that uplift women, youth, and persons living with disabilities.

One such inspiring initiative is that of Neema Leather and Savings Group, a dedicated youth group from Kiteghe Village, Kasigau Ward, in Voi Subcounty. The group is actively engaged in the leather value chain, producing quality local leather products such as soccer balls, sandals, shoes, bags, among other products.

Through the TUI Wildlife Project, which seeks to improve rural livelihoods in the greater Tsavo landscape, TTWCA recently visited the group and offered essential production materials, including shoe soles, adhesives, dyes, and decorative beads. This support is to enhance their production capacity and increase their income potential.

We have seen growth, and if we remain focused and think strategically, we believe Taita can have its own leather industry,

shared Kimeu Muthanga, the group’s Vice Chairperson.

Your passion and self-taught skills are commendable. We are proud to support your journey, and we look forward to seeing you realize your dream of establishing a leather industry here in Taita,

said Alfred Mwanake, CEO of Taita Taveta.

This initiative is part of TTWCA’s broader approach to building resilient communities that can adapt to climate shocks while tapping into sustainable livelihood opportunities tied to the landscape.

Together, we are proving that conservation can indeed go hand in hand with community empowerment.
