June, 5, 2025. Today, we join the world in marking World Environment Day 2025, a global call to action to protect and safeguard our environment. This year’s theme, “Ending Global Plastic Pollution,” reminds us that the future we shape begins with how we manage the waste we generate.
Plastic pollution is choking our ecosystems, from the forests we explore to the rivers and oceans that sustain life. Every year, an estimated 11 million tonnes of plastic waste leak into our aquatic ecosystems, while microplastics accumulate silently into the soil globally.
We’ve supported town clean-ups through active waste and garbage collection. In collaboration with NEMA Kenya, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya National Youth Service, Red Cross, WWF-Kenya, Taita Taveta National Polytechnic, The Taita Taveta County Government and local community members, we planted indigenous trees at our restoration site in Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary .
These trees play a vital role in restoring natural habitats, improving soil health, and enhancing air quality by absorbing pollutants and acting as carbon sinks.
These efforts, while local, contribute to a much larger global goal, a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient planet.
On this World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protect nature, empower communities, and reduce plastic waste at every level.
