TWCA in collaboration with Zoology Society of London (ZSL) is implementing a Darwin initiative, Darwin, Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund, and Darwin Plus funded project: Equitable Responses to Illegal Wild Meat Hunting in Tsavo, Kenya
Outcome: Reduced hunting and sale of wild meat by local communities, enhanced livelihoods for those communities, fewer snares and improved status of large carnivore and prey populations in Tsavo.
Harmony in Habitat: Empowering Communities for Nature’s Resilience
This is a five-year initiative implemented by a consortium led by WWF-Kenya in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA), the Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association (TTWCA), Rhino Ark, and CIFOR-ICRAF.
The project seeks to strengthen inclusive governance, restore critical ecosystems, and promote sustainable, nature-positive livelihoods across the Mau and Tsavo landscapes.
Advancing Human-Wildlife Conflict Management Effectiveness in Kenya through an Integrated Approach
The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, through the State Department for Wildlife (SDW), is the Executing Agency. This role is being supported by the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA), the Executing Agency support partner, alongside key government executing partners such as the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI).

Conservation & Rangers Empowerment Project (CORE)
TTWCA in collaboration with (Liz Claiborne and Art Ortenberg Foundation is implementing the project: Conservation and Ranger Empowerment project.
The project’s objectives is to build ranger capacity to effectively monitor endangered and conflict-prone species (elephants, giraffes, lions, Grevy’s zebra) and respond to HWC.
Equip and operationalize the TTWCA Security Sub-Hub to serve as the central convergence for ecological data management and Rapid Response activities.
It also aims at implementing community-based Human Wildlife Coexistence mitigation measures to reduce conflict, strengthen coexistence, and create alternative livelihoods. >> Learn More
